Durham Bulls News Release
DURHAM, NC- The Durham Bulls (43-37) defeated the Memphis Redbirds (44-36) 10-5 in game two of the six-game set on Wednesday night at Durham Bulls Athletic Park.
Memphis scored two runs in the first for the quick lead. Durham would come alive in the third, as a 2B Xavier Edwards RBI single ignited a seven-run inning. 1B Jonathan Aranda would tattoo a two-run double in the next at-bat to give the Bulls a 3-2 lead. Durham added RBI singles from 3B Curtis Mead and SS Tristan Gray, a sacrifice fly from DH Jim Haley, while CF Cal Stevenson's RBI double rounded out the spurt.
The Bulls would tack on two more scores in the sixth as Haley launched his second sacrifice fly of the night, and LF Luke Raley was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded to build a 9-2 lead. The Redbirds would cut into the Durham lead in the seventh as SS Evan Mendoza went yard on a solo shot and LF Tyler O'Neill used an RBI single to trim the deficit to 9-4. The Bulls, however, would respond in the bottom half of the inning as Aranda picked up his second RBI and fourth hit of the contest on a single to stretch the lead back to six.
Durham starter Ryan Yarbrough picked up the win after tossing 6.2 innings, allowing four runs on seven hits, and ringing up five strikeouts. Garrett Williams picked up the loss for Memphis.
The Bulls will return to the DBAP for game three against the Memphis Redbirds on Thursday night. RHP Tommy Romero is expected to toe the rubber for Durham and the Redbirds starter is yet to be determined. First pitch is scheduled for 6:35pm.
