Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp News Release
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - After a Fourth of July win on Monday, the Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp fell short 6-1 to the Norfolk Tides Wednesday afternoon at 121 Financial Park.
Norfolk (39-41) starter DL Hall (2-3) fanned a career-high 14 batters, including eight of the last nine and the final six that he faced, in leading the Tides to victory. Hall retired the last 14 Jumbo Shrimp (43-37) he faced in the effort, spoiling a strong start from Matthew Kent (4-6), who yielded just two runs in 6.0 innings.
With Jacksonville ahead 1-0 in the top of the second inning, Yusniel Diaz lined a single with one out. Rylan Bannon launched a home run into left field, giving the Tides an early 2-1 lead.
With the same score in the seventh, Bannon drew a one-out walk against RHP Jordan Holloway and Kelvin Gutiérrez followed with a single to right field, moving Bannon into scoring position. Two batters later, Cadyn Grenier walked before Terrin Vavra lined a single to right field, plating Bannon and Gutiérrez to lengthen the Tides' lead to 4-1.
Gunnar Henderson started the top of the eighth inning with a line drive double. Kyle Stowers followed with another double, plating Henderson. Two batters later, Bannon returned to the plate and drove a single into right field, plating Stowers to grow the Norfolk lead to 6-1.
After a scoreless top of the first inning, Bryson Brigman started the bottom of the inning strong with a leadoff double down the first base line. Three batters later, Lewin Diaz singled to plate Brigman, making the score 1-0.
Jacksonville and Norfolk continue their series with a 7:05 first pitch set for Thursday. RHP Bryan Hoeing (6-3, 4.40 ERA) starts for the Jumbo Shrimp against Tides RHP Chris Vallimont (1-1, 6.00 ERA). Coverage begins at 6:50 p.m. ET on ESPN 690, espn690.com and MiLB.tv.
Gates open tomorrow at 6 p.m. for Budweiser Thirsty Thursday at 121 Financial Ballpark. Fans can enjoy $2 (12-oz. draft) and $3 (24-oz. draft) Budweiser products on the left field berm, Oasis concession stand and the right field bleachers.
