Lehigh Valley IronPigs News Release
Allentown, Pennsylvania - Hot on the tails of other award-winning, dog-centric promotions celebrated in the past (including IronPugs and IronWeiners), the IronPigs will pay tribute in the 2022 season by recognizing an important "underdog" in the canine world - but top dogs to many of their fans - the mutt!
On Tuesday August 23 at 7:05 p.m., the IronPigs will be playing as the IronMutts presented by MATHESON; celebrating the non-pedigreed pups that make so many Lehigh Valley families and homes complete. And in doing that, they also will be partnering with the organizations that have made it possible for these loved family pets to find their new beginnings.
"Unlike their purebred friends, mixed breeds rarely can take front and center stage in the dog world. This is our way to celebrate this special class of canines, and the organizations that make it possible to get them adopted," said IronPigs President, General Manager and dog-lover Kurt Landes. "The IronPigs have paid tribute to the pug and wiener-dog, but now we feel it's time to recognize the ultimate underdog and that's the MUTT!"
The IronPigs have invited local nonprofit dog rescues to participate in several game day activities and initiatives (planned on and off the field) to support the overall "cause for paws" - including an IronMutt Strut adoptable dog parade, and adoption/information fair on the concourse.
Additionally, the IronMutts have a goal to receive as many adoption applications as possible on August 23rd - and the most ever at a professional sporting event. Further, the IronMutts want to provide as much recognition as possible for "underdog" mutts everywhere and the incredible organizations that help all canines. Each participating local rescue organization (tentative list below) will each have two "mutts" available for adoption at the IronMutts game along with additional information on all available canines at their organization's table. Here are the participating local rescue organizations:
Freedom First Rescue
Lehigh County Humane Society
Paws 2 Freedom
Peacable Kingdom
Red Rock Rescue, Inc.
Road Trip Rescue
Ruff Life Rescue and Rehabilitation
SOS Beagle Rescue
Zoe's home
With IronMutts players wearing custom designed IronMutts gear on-field up for auction courtesy of Tito's Vodka, the jersey auction and cap raffle proceeds will benefit the Animal Food Bank of the Lehigh Valley; helping to keep companion animals in homes (and preventing their surrender to the shelter system) by supplying families with pet food in times of economic distress. Participating rescues will also be invited to sell gameday tickets and receive a portion of proceeds from all ticket sales sold to their own fan base.
IronMutts-themed merchandise is now available in the Clubhouse Store. Visit the store or shopironpigs.com to see the selection of the IronMutts merchandise.
Fans will be able to bring their dogs to the game courtesy of TD Bank for "Tail-Waggin" Tuesday! Tuesday, August 23 is also a Dollar Dog Tuesday presented by Berks Foods featuring $1 hot dogs all night long!
Tickets are available now and you can secure your seat online by going to ironpigsbaseball.com or by phone at (610) 841-PIGS (7447).
