Lynchburg Hillcats News Release
Ole Sheldon smacked a walk-off solo home run off Moises Robles with two out in the bottom of the ninth to lift Kinston past Lynchburg 2-1 at Grainger Stadium Wednesday afternoon. The Hillcats dropped two of three games to the K-Tribe and will attempt to bounce back when they face Myrtle Beach at BB&T Coastal Field Thursday. Game time is set for 7:05 p.m.
Kinston seized a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first when Lonnie Chisenhall hit a solo home run off Lynchburg starter Justin Wilson. Chisenhall's homer - his 18th of the season and second in as many games - was the lone hit allowed by Wilson in five innings of work.
Kinston starter Paolo Espino kept Lynchburg's offense at bay for most of the afternoon. Espino held Lynchburg hitless through the first seven frames and allowed just one Hillcat to reach base - Alex Presley drew a two-out walk in the third.
Lynchburg finally got on the scoreboard in the top of the eighth. Jared Keel belted a solo home run off Espino that sailed over the left field fence and knotted the score at 1-1. Keel's blast ended Espino's outing and the Kinston right-hander settled for a no-decision after allowing one hit and one earned run with a walk and six strikeouts in 7 1/3 innings pitched.
Neither team recorded a hit after Keel's homer until the bottom of the ninth. Robles retired the first two K-Tribe batters before surrendering the game-winning homer to Sheldon.
Kyle Landis (2-4) worked 1 2/3 scoreless innings in relief of Espino to earn the win for Kinston. Robles (0-1) took the loss for Lynchburg.
The Cats travel to Myrtle Beach for a four-game set with the Pelicans at BB&T Coastal Field. Game one is scheduled for a 7:05 p.m. start Thursday.
