Frederick Keys News Release
For the third straight evening, the Frederick Keys had a double-digit hit total. On Wednesday night, however, the Keys had a double-digit run total as well, as Frederick blew out the Potomac Nationals 11-6.
The Keys actually had to come from behind to win. Potomac jumped all over Frederick RHP Sean Gleason in the third. With runners on first and second and nobody out, 2B Michael Martinez smacked a single to center. Angle booted the baseball, allowing two runs to score.
Potomac wasn't done. With one on and two down in the third, DH Michael Burgess cracked a two-run homer to right, making it 4-0.
That's all the P-Nats would get against Gleason. He ended up going seven innings, allowing four runs on eight hits. Gleason walked two and struck out five.
Frederick answered right back in their half of the third. With two on and nobody out, SS Pedro Florimon ripped a double down the left field line, scoring two and making it a 4-2 game. A batter later, DH Robbie Widlansky doubled in Florimon, pulling the Keys to within one. Following 3B Tyler Henson's walk, 2B Ryan Adams hit a two-run double into the right-center field gap, making it 5-4 Frederick.
In the bottom of the fourth, RF Billy Rowell drilled a solo homerun to deep right field, to extend the Keys' lead to two.
The score stayed at 6-4, until the bottom of the seventh. Frederick's offense exploded once again, as ten Keys' hitters came to the plate. Frederick scored four times on four hits to make it 10-4.
Potomac tried to make it a ball game again in the eighth. With one on and one down, Burgess hit another two-run homer, his second of the game, to make it 10-6.
Frederick tacked on an insurance run in the bottom of the eighth, and held on to win 11-6.
Several members of the Frederick lineup had huge games. Florimon finished 2-5 with four runs batted in. Widlansky went 3-4, his third three-hit night in a row. Adams finished 3-5, with two doubles and four RBI. Rowell went 3-4 with the solo homer. It was Rowell's second three-hit game in as many days.
Gleason (3-5) got the win. LHP Will Atwood (6-7) allowed six earned runs in four innings, in a losing effort.
The Keys hit the road for Winston-Salem Thursday, opening up a four-game set with the Dash. First pitch of the opener is set for 7:00 PM. LHP Zach Britton will get the start. The Keys return to Frederick on Friday, August 14th, for NFL Night at the ballpark. For ticket information, contact our box office at 1-877-8-GO-KEYS.
