Sacramento River Cats News Release
WEST SACRAMENTO, CA - Despite two home runs, the Sacramento River Cats (38-48) were held in check and dropped their Independence Day matchup with the Reno Aces (39-47) by the final score of 10-5.
The River Cats jumped out to a 2-0 lead on a two-run home run by Chris Shaw in the very first inning, his 17th of the season. Sacramento would go hitless until the eighth inning when Gregor Blanco got in on the action with a two-run homer of his own. Eventually, the River Cats fell 10-5 after recording just four hits on the evening.
River Cats starter Matt Gage had a tough start in Sacramento's first game in Reno this season. Gage allowed seven earned runs on ten hits in 2.2 innings pitched. The bullpen took on the bulk of the game, highlighted by 2.1 no-hit innings by Pacific Coast League All-Star Tyler Rogers.
The River Cats are back in action tomorrow for game two of this series, and will send left-hander Daniel Camarena (0-3, 2.48) to the mound. The Aces will counter with right-hander Jake Buchanan (5-7, 5.79). First pitch is set for 7:05 p.m. (PT).
