Oklahoma City Comets News Release
Oklahoma City - The Round Rock Express scored all of their runs with two outs, including four runs in the second inning, in a 7-3 win against the Oklahoma City Dodgers Thursday night at Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark.
With the loss, the Dodgers fell to 2-10 in their last 12 games and have lost eight straight home games for the first time since losing nine in a row at Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark June 15-27, 2005.
The Express (41-45) took a 2-0 lead in the five-game series between the teams with the win.
Round Rock grabbed the game's first lead in the second inning.
The Express loaded the bases with none out on two singles and a walk. Cliff Pennington hit the ball down the right field line. OKC first baseman Alex Burg fielded the ball, stepped on first and threw home to catcher Rocky Gale for a double play to keep the teams in a scoreless tie.
But Nick Noonan came up to bat next for Round Rock and hit a grounder up the middle for a two-run, two-out single. Hanser Alberto followed with a two-run homer out to left field and onto the Budweiser Deck for a 4-0 Express lead.
The Dodgers got on the scoreboard in the fourth inning. OKC's Kyle Garlick hit the first pitch of the bottom of the fourth inning onto the concourse beyond the Dodgers bullpen in left-center field for his team-leading 11th homer of the season to cut Round Rock's lead to 4-1. He went on to finish the game a team-best 3-for-4 at the plate.
Round Rock loaded the bases with two outs in the sixth inning. Noonan then hit the ball toward OKC shortstop Breyvic Valera who was unable to make a play and was charged with a fielding error, allowing a run to score for a 5-1 Round Rock lead.
With runners at first and second base with two outs in the top of the eighth inning, Alberto connected on a RBI single into center field to boost Round Rock's lead to 6-1. He finished the night with three RBI and has seven RBI for the Express through the first two games of the series with OKC.
Garlick doubled with two outs in the eighth inning before scoring on Alex Verdugo's RBI single into left field to cut the Express lead to 6-2.
Hunter Cole continued the Express' trend of scoring with two outs in the ninth inning, connecting on a two-out RBI double to right field for a 7-2 Round Rock advantage.
Edwin Rios led off the bottom of the ninth inning with a walk before Travis Taijeron hit a RBI double to cut Round Rock's lead to four runs.
Pitcher Martin Perez, on a Major League rehab assignment from the Texas Rangers, held the Dodgers to one run on six hits over 6.1 innings. He earned the win, recording six strikeouts and not issuing a walk.
Dodgers starting pitcher Tyler Pill (2-3) was charged with the loss, allowing five runs (four earned) and eight hits over 6.0 innings with two walks and four strikeouts.
The Dodgers (45-37) continue their five-game holiday weekend home series against the Round Rock Express at 7:05 p.m. Friday at Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark. Fireworks, presented by True Sky Credit Union, are scheduled to follow the game.
