Sacramento River Cats News Release

WEST SACRAMENTO, CA - Outfielder Chris Shaw ignited a three-run rally in the sixth inning with his 15th home run of the year but the Sacramento River Cats (36-46) fell short, losing 4-3 to the Fresno Grizzlies (48-33).

Shaw's 439-foot blast got things going during the sixth-inning comeback attempt, followed by an RBI-double from first baseman Myles Schroder and a run-scoring single from outfielder Eury Perez as the River Cats came within one.

But the Grizzlies bullpen would strike out six in four innings while allowing three hits and one walk, including a five-out save from closer Brendan McCurry, who saved his ninth game of the year.

Hard-throwing reliever Ray Black made sure the club had a chance in the ninth. He touched 102 miles per hour and consistently posted 100 on the radar gun while striking out three of the four batters he faced.

Right-hander Mike Connolly (0-0, 2.00) will make his second start of the year for the River Cats while the Grizzlies will send righty Josh James (2-3, 3.20) to the bump. First pitch is set for 1:05 p.m. (PT). Catch all of the action live online at rivercats.com, on the MiLB First Pitch app, and on the air on Money 105.FM.

Additional Notes

- Steven Duggar's first-inning double was his 25th of the year, which accounts for nearly one third of the 77 he has hit in his career since being selected in the sixth round of the 2015 draft.

- In the field, the River Cats turned two double plays to tie a season high. This season Sacramento has turned 12 more double plays than their opponents.
