Reno Aces News Release
Today's Game: With the series tied at one, the Aces will send their Ace Taylor Clarke to the mound to square off against Williams Perez. A.J. Pollock and Steven Souza Jr. look to continue their hot streaks on the way back to Phoenix. Reno enters today's contest with a record of 38-44, 10.5 games back of first place.
Last Game: Jake Buchanan picked up the fifth win of the season last night for Reno. Buchanan went five innings, allowed seven runs on 10 hits walked three. A.J. Pollock and Steven Souza led the Aces offensively Saturday night while on MLB rehab assignment. Pollock finished 3-for-3 with a home run, double, three runs scored and three RBI. Souza Jr. went 2-for-3, with two triples, two runs scored, two RBI and two walks. Not to be outdone, Kevin Cron (3-for-4) drove in six with two home runs a walk. Albert Suarez, Joey Krehbiel and Jared Miller finished things up for Buchanan with four innings of one-run baseball.
Big League Talent On Display: Rehabbing A.J. Pollock and Steven Souza Jr. had their way with the Tacoma Rainiers Saturday night. Pollock finished a triple shy of the cycle in just three at-bats. Pollock homered in the top of the first inning, singled in the top of the third, doubled in the top of the fourth, and walked in the top of the fifth. Souza Jr. finished with two triples and drew two walks. The duo was responsible for 10 of the Aces 14 total runs.
Game of Crons: Three days after recording his second career three-homer game, the D-backs' No. 19 prospect went yard twice and drove in six runs to lead Triple-A Reno to a 14-8 victory over Tacoma on Saturday at Cheney Stadium. Cron is having an MVP-caliber season with the Aces. The TCU product has 13 homers and 54 RBIs, despite missing more than a month because of a strained left oblique. He put up a .316/.376/.600 slash line with eight homers and 30 RBIs in June and has been even better the past 10 games, going 18-for-40 (.450) with six roundtrippers. His 30 RBI in June lead the Aces and the entire Pacific Coast League in June. Per RadsStats, last night was Cron's third game of the year with 6+ RBI. He is the first Aces player in franchise history to have multiple games of 6+ RBI in a single season. He leads all of professional baseball in RBI since his first game on May 4.
The Summer of Socrates: Socrates Brito is likely sad to see the month of June come to an end. The outfielder finished the month 34-for-82 (.415) with 20 extra-base hits, 10 home runs 23 RBI and 11 strikeouts. Brito led the Aces in home runs (10), runs (27), OBP (.490), SLG (.902), and OPS (1.392). Brito is a strong candidate for Pacific Coast League Player of the Month set to be announced early next week. Brito was the only Aces player named to the 2018 Pacific Coast League All-Star team this season.
