Iowa Cubs News Release

DES MOINES, IA - The Memphis Redbirds (51-32) captured two victories over the Iowa Cubs (29-52), Sunday at Principal Park. The two teams first completed last night's suspension, with Memphis capturing a 13-2 victory. The Redbirds took the second game 6-1.

Eddie Butler made his first rehab start for Iowa last night and was roughed up, allowing three runs on two hits and a walk. Tyler O'Neill blasted a two-run homer to right to account for most of the damage. The righty fanned two while throwing 32 pitches, 17 for strikes.

Kyle Ryan took over in the second and held Memphis scoreless through three while whiffing five before Iowa could strike back. In the fourth, Victor Caratini roped a single with one out and ended the shutout on a Ryan Court double. At that point, the skies opened up and the rain washed away the game for the night.

The game was resumed today in the top of the fifth and Memphis picked up right where it left off. The Redbirds plated runs in each of the final five frames. Luke Voit highlighted the day, hitting for the cycle by going 5-for-6 with five RBI.

The Redbirds' offense stayed hot in Game 2, knocking Iowa pitching for 12 hits. Duane Underwood Jr. (3-8) fresh off his major league debut, spun 5.2 innings, allowing four earned runs on 11 hits. He walked one and fanned seven. Dakota Mekkes took over in the sixth and gave up the first home run of his Triple-A career to Randy Arozarena.

On the opposite bump, Daniel Poncedeleon improved to 7-3 after five innings of work. He gave up one unearned run to the I-Cubs in the fourth as Caratini walked to lead off and scored on an error following a Jason Vosler single.

Iowa and Memphis clash again tomorrow at 7:08. The game will feature a post-game holiday fireworks show. For more information or tickets, visit www.iowacubs.com.
