Sharks recall Patzold

CLEVELAND - San Jose Sharks Executive Vice President and General Manager Doug Wilson announced today that the club has recalled goaltender Dimitri Patzold from the Cleveland Barons.

In three games this season, Patzold has accumulated a record of 1-2-0, with a 4.67 goals-against-average and a .844 saves percentage.

Last season the 6-foot, 195-pound goaltender led the Barons in minutes played (2418:04), wins (18), saves percentage (.911) and goals-against-average (2.58). He finished the season with a record of 18-16-5 in 41 appearances.

The native of Kamenogorsk, Kazakhstan was selected by the Sharks in the 4th round (110th overall) of the 2001 NHL Entry Draft.

Patzold is the second Cleveland goaltender recalled this week by the Sharks. Nolan Schaefer was recalled earlier this week and made his NHL debut in the Sharks 5-4 overtime victory last night.

In related news, Cleveland Barons General Manager Wayne Thomas announced that the team has signed goaltender Joel Martin to a PTO agreement.

Martin has appeared in one game, a victory, this season with the Kalamazoo Wings (UHL), allowing just one goal on 31 shots. He will join the team tonight in Manitoba as they take on the Moose at the MTS Centre in Winnipeg.

The Barons will return to National City Rink located in The Q on Tuesday, November 1st against the Hershey Bears at 7:05pm.
