Sharks Reassign Schaefer to Barons; Holden Loaned to Fresno

CLEVELAND - San Jose Sharks Executive Vice President and General Manager Doug Wilson announced today that the team has reassigned goaltender Nolan Schaefer to the Cleveland Barons.

Schaefer was recalled by the Sharks on October 22nd and made his NHL debut on October 26th in the Sharks 5-4 overtime victory over the Dallas Stars. He appeared in seven games for the Sharks, earning a 5-1-0 record and a 1.88 goals-against-average. He was victorious in his first five appearances, becoming the first Shark to begin his career with five consecutive wins. The 6-foot-2, 195-pound Schaefer has played in three games for the Barons this season recording one win and two losses with a 3.01 goals-against-average.

Schaefer was originally selected by San Jose in the fifth round (166th overall) in the 2000 NHL Entry Draft.

In related news, the Barons have loaned goaltender Jamie Holden to the Fresno Falcons (ECHL). Holden has played in 10 games for the Barons and has a 5-5-0-0 record with a 3.26 goals-against-average. He was honored as the CCM/Vector AHL Player of Week for the period ending November 6th with a 3-0-0 record, a 1.62 goals-against-average and a .952 saves percentage. Holden also a set a franchise record for consecutive wins by a goaltender (5) on November 13th.

The Barons will return to National City Rink located at The Q on Sunday, December 11th against the Houston Aeros at 5:05pm.
