Shantz Scores Overtime Winner as Pats Defeat Royals 2-1

Regina, Sask. - Zackary Shantz scored the overtime winner, lifting the Regina Pats to a 2-1 come from behind victory over the Victoria Royals, snapping the Pats season-long seven game losing-streak on Saturday inside the Brandt Centre.

With the Pats trailing 1-0 late in the third period, Tanner Howe fed Tye Spencer a pass up the ice and he tied the game 1-1 to grant overtime. In the extra-frame, Shantz snapped an 18-game goalless drought with his fifth of the season, picking up the Pats second overtime win of the season and seventh comeback win.

Kelton Pyne was named first start of the night, allowing just one goal on 29 shots. The Pats now have 14 victories on the season, with seven of them being comeback wins.

1-0 Royals at 3:11 - Escalus Burlock (6), assisted by Cole Reschny & Dawson Pasternak (PP) // Just as a Royals 5-on-3 was ending Reschny's shot from the right circle is tipped in by Burlock past Pyne to give the Royals a 1-0 lead early in the second period.

Third Period

1-1 Team at 17:21 - Tye Spencer (10), assisted by Tanner Howe & Ty Gibson (PP) // Howe sent a nice pass to Spencer who got behind the Royals' defence and beat Holt to tie the game up at 1-1 late in the third period.

Overtime

2-1 Pats at 2:55 - Zackary Shantz (5), assisted by Samuel Barcik & Jaxsin Vaughan // Barcik's long-distance shot is stopped by Holt but Shantz grabbed the rebound and tucked the puck five-hole to give the Pats a 2-1 win.
