Pats and Ehrlo Sport Venture Partner for Another Season in Support of the Outdoor Hockey League
January 6, 2024 - Western Hockey League (WHL)
Regina Pats News Release
Regina, Sask. - The Regina Pats Hockey Club is excited to partner up with Ehrlo Sport Venture's Outdoor Hockey League (OHL) once again as they kicked off their 31st season at Grassick Outdoor Rink on January 6th.
This partnership first formed when Shaun and Gavin Semple announced a $50,000 donation to the OHL at a home game in the 2023 WHL Playoffs. This contribution has gone directly to the OHL's efforts in supporting access to hockey for kids across the city of Regina.
"Brandt and the Semple family are proud to support the OHL," says Matt Semple, SVP of Marketing for Brandt. "We believe that team sport, especially hockey, builds strong people and strong people build strong communities. The work that is being done here to remove barriers for access to youth hockey in Regina is something we are excited to be a part of."
Sport Venture, the Pats, and Brandt unveiled new signage at the Grassick outdoor hockey rink's warm-up shack on Saturday to celebrate the partnership and further promote the OHL. Signs will be going up at all eight OHL rinks across Regina.
The Regina Pats and Brandt would like to thank All Brite Signs and their ownership group comprised of former Reinga Pats forward Boyd Kane (1994-1998) and goaltender Chad Mercier (1992-1997), as well as Trent Law, for their generous donation of the signs at each of the 8 rinks and for their support of the OHL.
"The OHL and Sport Venture play such an important role in our community by knocking down the financial barriers to participating in hockey and providing hundreds of kids the opportunity to play hockey, and we're extremely proud to play a small part in the excellent work Gloria Patrick and her team do on a daily basis" says Regina Pats CEO Gord Pritchard. "I'd also like to acknowledge the Semple Family and Brandt for their generous donation to the OHL and for continuing to support this important organization in Regina. A special thank you also goes out to Boyd, Chad and Trent for their partnership in donating the signage at all 8 warm-up shacks."
Each year, hundreds of kids get involved with hockey through the OHL, a traditionally difficult sport to access. Sport Venture removes the barriers to participation by providing equipment and the league is completely free! Players get equal time on the ice regardless of skill level. The league runs from January to March each year and is open to all youth from six to 16 years of age and runs at eight rinks throughout the city.
"Having the opportunity to help out and give back to a community and sport that has played such a large part in our lives was easy," said Boyd Kane, Owner All Brite Signs. "We are excited to be able to be a small part of it with the Pats and Brandt who we have a strong relationship with as a business. Then seeing what Sport Venture Play and the OHL do to allow so many children to have a chance to play hockey that may not otherwise is very impressive."
The Pats are extremely excited to partner with the OHL once again for another exciting winter of outdoor hockey, and the Pats players are even more excited to give back to our wonderful community in and skate with OHL players this winter.
