MCALLEN, TEXAS - The defending NBA Development League champion Rio Grande Valley Vipers announced Saturday that the Washington Wizards have signed point guard Mustafa Shakur (6-4, 195, Arizona) to a 10-day contract.

Shakur becomes the first GATORADE Call-Up from the Vipers this season and the 13th in franchise history after averaging 16.7 points, 4.7 rebounds, 5.0 assists and 1.9 steals in 23 games and starts. Over his last 10 games, Shakur averaged 19.2 points, 4.6 rebounds, 6.2 assists and 2.2 steals per game.

"I'm really happy for Mustafa. He's proven that he can play more than one style, which is important for a point guard. He's just another example of guys committing to the NBA D-League in the hope that it pays off. He turned down many big offers overseas to come and stay in the NBA D-League. Like all of our guys who get a GATORADE Call-Up, we hope we don't see him back here because that would be a good thing," Vipers head coach Chris Finch said.

Shakur is expected to join the Wizards immediately and be available for tonight's game against the Boston Celtics.
