T-Birds Offense Explodes in Win Over Skyforce

Sioux Falls, SD - The New Mexico Thunderbirds (12-13) scored a season high 128 points as they beat the Sioux Falls Skyforce (3-19) 128-115 on Saturday night.

With the T-Birds leading scorer Shane Edwards out, six players scored in double digits led by Abdulai Jalloh (32 points) and Jamine Peterson (27 points).

In the first quarter, with the Skyforce leading 17-16, the Thunderbirds ripped off a 13-0 run to take a 29-17 lead. They would finish the quarter with 37 points and a 14 point lead. Jalloh, Peterson and Dar Tucker all scored 10 points in the quarter.

The Thunderbirds extended the lead to as many as 20 points in the second quarter, but Sioux Falls outscored them 19-11 over the final five minutes and cut the lead to 12 points at the break.

Jalloh and Peterson combined to score 15 of the first 18 points for the T-Birds in the third quarter and they extended the lead back up 17 points. They would finish the quarter with a 92-78 lead.

In the fourth quarter, the Skyforce cut the lead to nine points with 8:20 remaining, but the Thunderbirds answered with a 9-2 run to take a 107-91 lead and pull away for good.

The Thunderbirds will be back in action on Thursday, Jan 27 against the Austin Toros at Cedar Park Center at 6:30 p.m.

They will return home on Feb. 1 for the Night of Thunder, in which Rio Rancho High School and Cleveland High School will square off prior to the Thunderbirds games against the Texas Legends.
