Bakersfield Jam News Release

SPRINGFIELD, MA - After suffering a tough overtime loss the night before, the Bakersfield Jam turned things around and defeated the Springfield Armor 118-101 Saturday afternoon at the MassMutual Center in Springfield.

The Jam led by just 5 at halftime, 56-51, but the second half was all Bakersfield. In the third quarter, the Armor struggled mightily with turnovers. Bakersfield forced 6 Armor turnovers on their way to a 15-2 run giving them the largest lead of the night at 19.

Marqus Blakely had a big third quarter scoring 11 of his team-high 25 points in the period.

The Jam nearly pulled off a 21-point fourth quarter comeback the previous night against the Armor, before falling in overtime.

On Saturday, there was no need for a fourth quarter rally, as the Jam cruised to victory, improving to 16-10. With the loss, the Armor's three-game winning streak comes to an end. The Armor are now 9-16 on the season.

Jerry Smith, the hero of last night's game, was once again a spark for the Armor scoring 11 points off the bench in the first half. Smith finished the game with 24 points and now has scored 20 or more points in his last three games. Craig Brackins led the Armor with a game-high 27 points, while Scottie Reynolds added 13 points and 9 assists

Trey Johnson scored 22 points and snared 10 rebounds for the Jam, one night after posting a game-high 38 points. Jeremy Wise helped out with 19 points and 8 assists.

Bakersfield will head to Reno to take on the Bighorns Friday night.
