A seven-run fifth inning put Greensboro in the lead, and Grasshoppers held on for a 7-5 win over the Lexington Legends Tuesday in Greensboro.

The Legends jumped out to a 4-0 lead on a two-run homer by Xavier Fernandez in the second inning and a two-run double by Chase Vallot in the third.

Legends' starter Foster Griffin held Greensboro scoreless through the first four innings, but the fifth inning began with singles by Aaron Blanton and Justin Twine. Korey Dunbar struck out, but Zach Sullivan doubled, scoring Blanton and sending Twine to third. Anfernee Seymour bunted for a hit as the runners held, loading the bases. After Stone Garrett struck out, Twine scored as shortstop Marten Gasparini committed an error on a ball hit by Josh Naylor. Angel Reyes followed with a two-run single to tie the game at 4-4. When the Legends made a pickoff attempt at first, Naylor stole home, putting the Grasshoppers in front. Isael Soto singled, moving Reyes to second, and Blanton doubled to left field, scoring both runners and giving Greensboro a 7-4 lead.

Lexington scored a run in the eighth when Fernandez reached on an error, moved to second on a passed ball and scored on a double by Travis Maezes. The Legends loaded the bases with no outs in the ninth against reliever Scott Squier, but could not score.

Ben Holmes (4-0), who relieved starter Jordan Holloway, got the win. He pitched three and one-third innings and allowed one hit and no runs.

Griffin (1-4) was the losing pitcher. He allowed eight hits in four and two-thirds innings, but only one of the seven runs scored against him was earned. He struck out six batters and walked none.

Each team won two games in the series.

The Legends will be off Wednesday and will open a four-game series against South Atlantic League Southern Division leader Charleston Thursday night at Whitaker Bank Ballpark. Game time is 7:05 p.m.
