Charleston Dirty Birds News Release

(Charleston, WV- May 10, 2016)- A walk-off single by Alfredo Reyes in the bottom of the ninth inning gave the West Virginia Power a 4-3 victory over the Hagerstown Suns. The Power earned a split of the four game series as they closed out the home stand.

After three straight scoreless frames to start the game, the Suns scored a run off Power starter Logan Sendelbach in the bottom of the third on a sacrifice fly from Ryan Ripken.

That was the only blemish for Sendelbach, who allowed just one run and four hits across six innings while striking out six. The Tiffin, Ohio native has allowed two runs or less in six of his seven starts this season.

The one run lead was short lived for the suns as the Power came back to take the lead in the bottom half of the inning against Suns starter Andrew Lee. After Casey Hughston reached on an error, Daniel Arribas and Mitchell Tolman took back-to-back walks to load the bases. The next batter, Christian Kelly, lined a double down the right field line that cleared the bases and gave the Power a 3-1 lead.

Both teams traded scoreless innings until the eighth, when the Suns were able to tie the game against reliever Billy Roth. After the first two hitters reached, Hagerstown plated a run on a Power infield error, and tied the game on a Rhett Wiseman sacrifice fly making it 3-3.

The score held until the bottom of the ninth inning. Carlos Munoz led off with a single and Daniel Arribas was hit by a pitch from reliever Matthew Crownover. After both runners advanced to second and third on a Tolman sacrifice bunt, Christian Kelley was intentionally walked to load the bases. That set the table for Alfredo Reyes, who muscled a single to right field overtop the drawn in Suns infield, plating Munoz and giving the Power the 4-3 walk-off victory.

Roth (1-1) picked up the first win of his professional career, after allowing two hits and two runs over three innings.

Crownover (3-1) gave up three hits and a run over three and third inning before receiving his first loss of the season.

Kelley picked up a game-high three RBI for the Power and Daniel Arribas went 1-2 with a double while reaching base safely in three of his four plate appearances.

The Power begin a stretch where they play 27 games in 27 days, starting with a four game series on the road against Lakewood beginning Thursday night. West Virginia will try for their third in a row as they send J.T. Brubaker to the mound against Lakewood starter Shane Watson. First pitch is scheduled for 6:35 P.M. at First Energy Park.
