Charleston, SC - The Hickory Crawdads followed up two standout performances against the Charleston RiverDogs with an off night on Monday, as the 'Dads lost their first game of the series 8-3 at Joseph P. Riley Jr. Park.

The Crawdads won their first two games against the 'Dogs 5-3 and 7-2, before Charleston bounced back with 8 runs on 12 hits offensively while also holding the 'Dads to 3 runs, 1 earned, on three hits from the mound. The loss snaps the Crawdads 4-game win streak; the third such streak this season for the division leading 'Dads.

Hickory jumped out to the initial lead in the ballgame, as the Crawdads used a one-out single by Chris Garia and three errors by the RiverDogs to score an unearned run in the 1st for a 1-0 score. Charleston quickly responded in the bottom of the frame however, as the 'Dogs got to 'Dads starting pitcher Brett Martin for 3 runs on 4 hits to take a 3-1 lead.

Martin settled down and put up scoreless innings in the 2nd and 3rd, biding time for the Crawdads offense which delivered a run in the top of the 4th to cut the deficit to 3-2. Andy Ibanez started the frame with a leadoff double off the wall in left. Two outs later, Ibanez was able to score when he took third base on a passed ball before coming home to score on a wild pitch.

The RiverDogs came back with a run of their own in the home half of the inning, as Angel Aguilar singled, advanced to second on an infield popup from Leonardo Molina that fell in for a hit, took third on a wild pitch, and ultimately scored on an RBI single by Eduardo Nava to make the score 4-2.

The 'Dads attempted one last rally in the top of the 6th when Tyler Sanchez reached on a strikeout passed ball and came home one out later on an RBI single by Ti'Quan Forbes to bring the deficit to 4-3. The 'Dogs once again had an answer however, as Charleston plated 3 runs on 3 hits and two walks off of Hickory reliever Dillon Tate to pull away with a 7-3 lead. The RiverDogs brought home their final tally in the 7th, with an RBI double by Jeff Hendrix off of Blake Bass, giving Charleston their final 8-3 score.

'Dogs starting pitcher Yefrey Ramirez (1-0) earned the win with 2 runs allowed, 1 earned run, on two hits, one walk, and 5 strikeouts. Martin (1-2) took the loss for the 'Dads after allowing 4 runs on 7 hits, one walk, and 4 Ks over 5 IP.

Forbes ended the game as the only Hickory hitter to reach base safely multiple times, going 1-2 with an RBI and two hit-by-pitches. Ibanez finished 1-4 with his minor league-leading 16th double of the season.

The Crawdads (21-10) will go for the series win over the RiverDogs (20-10) Tuesday morning, with an 11:05 am first pitch.
