PREVIEW: The Shorebirds couldn't hold one of the South Atlantic League's top offenses at bay last night in a 9-3 loss to Asheville. The Tourists have the series lead 2-1 with the season-series finale this morning. The Asheville Tourists and the Class A Affiliates of the Colorado Rockies. The 'Birds have won 13 of their last 20 games since opening the season 4-6 and still have a chance to split the series and win the road trip. Asheville is led by shortstop Brendan Rodgers, last year's third overall pick. Rodgers has been the best prospect in the league this year - he is hitting a league best .363 with 10 doubles (fifth), 7 homers (tied first) and 27 RBI's (second).
TODAY'S OPPONENT: Southpaw Dylan Craig gets the ball in the series finale for the Tourists. Craig was selected in the 12th round of the 2014 MLB First Year Player Draft out of Illinois State University. This is his first year in the South Atlantic League, and he is coming off of the worst start of his career. Craig recorded only three outs and surrendered 10 runs on nine hits in a blowout loss to Lakewood last Thursday night. He has also given up five runs in 2.2 innings and four runs in 4.0 innings this year. This morning marks his third start of the season in his sixth game.
ROSTER OVERVIEW: Delmarva opens the year with each of the Orioles' First Round Draft picks last summer in shortstop Ryan Mountcastle and outfielder D.J. Stewart. According to Baseball America, the Shorebirds have five of the top 30 prospects in Baltimore's farm system on their roster. Aside from Mountcastle and Stewart, pitchers Ofelky Peralta (#17) and Garrett Cleavinger (#26), along with catcher Alex Murphy (#27), are among the O's most highly-touted farmhands. RHP's Christian Turnipseed and Ryan Meisinger have both posted solid numbers as well.
