Asheville Tourists News Release

ASHEVILLE, NC - The Asheville Tourists wrapped up their seven-game homestand on Tuesday morning with an Education Day special at McCormick Field. The stadium was packed with children and school was in session on the diamond as the Tourists took care of the Shorebirds by a final score of 4-1.

Dylan Craig received the start for Asheville and the left-hander pitched his best outing of the season. Craig tossed five shutout innings and notched the win. Three relievers combined to spell Craig and kept Delmarva from scoring an earned run. The Shorebirds lone run of the game came on a Tourists throwing error in the sixth.

Offensively, Asheville was led by their first-baseman Josh Fuentes. Less than 24 hours after clubbing a Home Run on Monday night, Fuentes went deep again. In his first at-bat, the Rancho Santa Margarita, California native crushed a two-run blast over the wall in right field. The Home Run gave the Tourists a 2-0 lead. Fuentes added a double his next plate appearance.

Later in the second inning, Jonathan Piron and Carlos Herrera combined to record back-to-back doubles which made it 3-0. The Tourists final run came in the seventh when Brian Mundell scored Herrera with a two-out single to left.

Sam Thoele earned his sixth save of the season by pitching a scoreless ninth. Thoele struck out Delmarva's best hitter, Yermin Mercedes, to end the game.

With the win the Tourists ended up taking three of four games from the Shorebirds and concluded the homestand with a 4-3 mark. Next up is an off day Wednesday followed by a trip to Columbia, South Carolina on Thursday to face the Fireflies.
