
Seven Game Win Streak Ends

The SeaWolves season-best seven game winning streak came to an end on Wednesday night at Jerry Uht Park by a score of 8-3 to the New Britain Rock Cats.
The âCats struck first in the top of the first inning against Erie starter Josh Rainwater. Brian Dinkelman led off with a single, Steve Tolleson walked and Dustin Martin singled to load the bases with no outs for David Winfree. Winfree singled home Dinkelman for a 1-0 New Britain lead. Rainwater then struck out Danny Valencia for the first out and induced an inning-ending 6-4-3 double play.
The SeaWolves tied the game in the bottom of the first against Rock Cats starter Jay Rainville. With one out, James Skelton walked, Wilkin Ramirez singled and Casper Wells walked to load the bases for Pedro Cotto. Cotto was hit by a pitch, scoring Skelton, tying the game at 1-1.
The Rock Cats regained the lead in the top of the second. Toby Gardenhire led off with a walk, Rodolfo Palacios then reached on an error to put two on for Brandon Roberts. Roberts walked to load the bases for Dinkelman. Dinkelman grounded into a 4-6-3 double play, but Gardenhire scored to make it 2-1 âCats. Tolleson then doubled home Palacios for a 3-1 lead.
The score remained the same until the top of the sixth when the SeaWolves battled back to tie. Ramirez reached on a one-out error and Wells doubled to put runners in scoring position. Cotto then walked to load the bases. With two outs, Deik Scram laced a ground rule double over the wall in center. Scoring both Ramriez and Wells, tying the game at 3-3.
From that point on the game would be all New Britain. In the top of the seventh, Dinkelman singled with one out and moved to third on a hit and run with Tolleson batting. Against reliever Angel Castro, Dustin Martin hit a sacrifice fly to center, scoring Dinkelman for the go-ahead run at 4-3 Rock Cats. In the top of the eighth Valencia scored on a two-out throwing error by Skelton for a 5-3 New Britain advantage.
The Rock Cats would go on to score three more runs in the top of the ninth, two on Tolleson's fourth hit of the game, a two-run home run, for an 8-3 lead.
Rainwater (9-6) took the loss for Erie going 6.1 innings, allowing four runs, two earned, on six hits with four walks and two strikeouts.
