
Thunder offense stagnant in loss

(Trenton, NJ)- Bowie Second baseman Carlos Rojas had two hits, including a two-run single, to lead the Baysox past Trenton 10-2 on Wednesday night from Waterfront Park. Trenton has dropped the first two games of the series, and scored only 11 runs in its last six games.
Bowie scored five runs in the third inning to jump out to a 5-0 lead. Designated hitter Jonathan Tucker led off the frame with an infield single. Shortstop Blake Davis followed Tucker and reached on an error by Thunder Starting pitcher George Kontos advancing Tucker to second base. After a sacrifice bunt by Center fielder Sebastien Bocher, Rojas singled in two runs to make it 2-0. Later in the frame, Catcher Matt Wieters had an RBI double, and First baseman Ryan Finan connected on a two-run single to increase the lead to 5-0. In the fifth inning, Left fielder Mike Rodriguez had an RBI triple to extend the lead to 6-0. Trenton (73-49) scored two runs in the sixth inning to cut the deficit to 6-2. First baseman P.J. Pilittere delivered an RBI single, and Right fielder Edwar Gonzalez had an RBI groundout in the inning. The Baysox put the game out of reach with a four-run eighth inning. Right fielder Nolan Reimold produced a two-run single, and Third baseman Jeff Nettles drilled a two-run double.
Bowie Starting pitcher David Hernandez (8-4) picked up the win in five plus innings of work. He allowed seven hits and two earned runs during the start. He struck out five and walked two. Three relievers combined to toss the final four shutout innings to preserve the win. Kontos (4-11) gave up six runs (five earned) in five innings to take the loss. He struck out five and walked three. He did extend his consecutive scoreless streak to 20 2/3 innings, a Thunder season-high. Thunder Shortstop Reegie Corona and Center fielder Austin Jackson both had two hits in the defeat.
Trenton and Bowie will play the final game of the three-game series on Thursday night at Waterfront Park. Game time is set for 7:05 p.m. RHP Eric Hacker (6-2, 2.71) will start for the Thunder against Bowie RHP Chris Tillman (7-4, 3.67).
