Baltimore Blast News Release
Baltimore, MD â The Major Indoor Soccer League announced today the players who will represent the USA All Stars and the International All Stars in the 2004 MISL All Star Game. Seven players from the Baltimore Blast were selected to play; three will represent the USA Team and four will represent the International Team. Goalkeeper Scott Hileman, defenders Wendell Regis and Danny Kelly and forwards Denison Cabral, David Bascome, Giuliano Celenza and Chile Farias were selected to take part in the 2004 All Star Weekend festivities. The 2004 MISL All-Star Weekend is scheduled for February 28-29 in St. Louis with the All-Star Game to be played Sunday the 29th at the Family Arena at 1 p.m. CT.
"We are very pleased with the selection of seven Baltimore Blast players to the All Star Game. We are very happy for our players getting the well-deserved recognition," said Blast General Manager Kevin Healey. "I believe the selections are a reflection on the 2003 MISL Championship and the success of the Blast this season. We look forward to an exciting All Star Game."
The MISL USA Team will include Baltimore's Hileman, Kelly and Celenza against Cabral, Farias, Regis and Bascome who will play for the MISL International team. Hileman, who will be playing in his third All Star Game, leads the League with 16 wins and ranks fifth in the MISL with a 4.58 goals against average. He has earned wins in both of his previous All Star appearances (2001-02 and 2000-01). Kelly, a 12-year veteran of indoor soccer, is playing as a defender for the Blast this season. Kelly played in the 1995-96 All Star Game and had to turn down his selection in 2000-01 due to an injury. Celenza, a Baltimore native in his fourth Blast season, will be playing in his first All Star Game. Celenza ranks fourth on the Blast in points this season with 26 and is among the League's top scorers.
Farias, January's MISL Offensive Player of the Month, leads the Blast in points this season (42) and ranks third in the MISL in points. The native of Santiago, Chile, leads the League with 30 assists this season and represented the West in last year's MISL All Star Game. Cabral, Baltimore's all-time leading scorer, will be playing in his fifth All Star Game. He ranks second on the Blast in points (31) and has seven points in his previous All Star appearances. Cabral came to the United States from Brazil in 1994. Bascome, a member of the Bermudian National Team, will also be playing in his fifth All Star Game. One of just eight current MISL players with 900 or more points, Bascome has 947 points in his career and eight points and 13 blocks in his previous All Star appearances. Regis, originally from Trinidad, will be making his first All Star appearance. He leads the Blast in blocks (37) after making a comeback from a possibly career-ending knee injury in 2000.
The 2003 MISL Champion Baltimore Blast had more All Star selections this season than any other MISL team; the Milwaukee Wave followed with six selections and the Philadelphia KiXX had five players selected.
The 2004 All-Star Game will feature the MISL USA Team against the MISL International Team and will be followed by the annual MISL "Legends" Game. Coaches for the USA and International Teams will be announced on Monday, February 9. The coaches will be chosen based on the MISL team's regular-season records as of February 8.
For the first time in League history, the MISL will allow fans to vote for the All Star Game starters online. Beginning Friday, Feb. 6th, and continuing through midnight, Sunday, Feb. 22nd, MISL fans will have the opportunity to go online at www.misl.net to view the All-Star teams and vote for the starters.
The 2004 MISL All Star Game will be televised live in Baltimore on CN8 at 2 p.m. ET.
