Toledo Walleye News Release

Toledo, OH - After taking the series lead with a 7-2 win on Tuesday, the Walleye looked to defend the home ice to take a commanding advantage on Wednesday. With the series shifting to Charlotte after the contest, Toledo needed to make a statement at Lucas County Arena.

Charlotte took the lead with an early first period goal; after holding the puck in the Walleye zone, Checkers defenseman Steve Ward passed to the top of the crease from the blue line, where Andrew Carroll was able to take his time and pick his spot over goaltender Jordan Pearce only 24 seconds into the contest.

Toledo answered with arguably its hottest shooter. After his hat trick performance the night before, Adam Keefe netted the equalizer at 8:56 through goalie Ryan Munce - his fourth goal of the playoffs - for the 1-1 tie taken to the second period.

The second period was relatively uneventful and looked to end the same way it started. Even with three Toledo power plays, the Walleye were held scoreless in the period. However, on a desperation shot with 3:22 left, Daniel Tkaczuk just shoveled a pass on net from under the left circle almost by the red line and it trickled through the pads of Pearce for the 2-1 deficit.

Toledo had another tough break when Kenny Roche took long shot in the third period. Before crossing the Walleye blue line, Roche wound up for a slap shot which hit Pearce in the blocker while standing. The puck went straight up in the air, leaving Pearce unable to locate the puck. As it came down, it bounced off a Walleye defender and went between the legs of Pearce and into the net. After that goal, the Walleye just could not recover, giving up three more goals to go down by a score of 6-1, the final score.

Up Next: Toledo will go on to play three straight in Charlotte with the series even 1-1. Game #3 is April 9 at 7:00 pm. Listen to the game live on Fox Sports Radio, 1230 WCWA. Second round games begin April 14.
