
Condors drop series opener 6-3 to the Salmon Kings

VICTORIA, BRITISH COLUMBIA - The Bakersfield Condors (0-1) lost Game 1 of the Conference Quarterfinals to the Victoria Salmon Kings (1-0) 6-3 on Wednesday night at Save-On-Foods Memorial Centre. RW Wes Goldie recorded two goals and an assist to help the Salmon Kings to a 1-0 lead in the best-of-five series. F Stephane Goulet scored two goals for Bakersfield in the loss.
LW Chad Painchaud put Victoria up 1-0 just 49 seconds into the contest. The Salmon Kings had a golden opportunity to make it 2-0, but Goldie was denied on a penalty shot by G J.P. Levasseur with 2:55 remaining in the first period. Goulet evened the score at one with a backhander with 1:20 left in the opening frame. Victoria held a 12-11 shots lead after 20 minutes.
Victoria scored twice in the first 4:26 of the second period for a 3-1 lead. C Dirk Southern scored at even strength at 2:09 and Goldie tallied a goal on the power play at 4:26. The Condors countered quickly. Goulet scored on a breakaway off of a perfect feed from D Evan Stoflet at the 8:15 mark of the middle frame. Just 23 seconds later, LW Dan Kissel centered the puck to D Scott Marchesi for a one-timer and a 3-3 game. Goldie scored his second of the game with 56 seconds left in the second period to give the Salmon Kings a 4-3 lead.
The Condors pressured to tie the game at four in the third period, with Goulet hitting a post. However, the Salmon Kings increased their lead to 5-3 with 7:55 to play in regulation on a goal by C Olivier Filion. Painchaud capped off the scoring with an empty net goal to make it 6-3 in the final two minutes of the game.
