Harrisburg Senators News Release

The Harrisburg Senators used a big seventh inning to break the game open, and blew out the Altoona Curve in Altoona on Wednesday at Blair County Ballpark. The official attendance at the 10:30 AM game was 3684.

The seventh inning began with the Senators (14-19) leading 1-0, thanks to a Jesus Valdez double that drove in Danny Espinosa in the sixth. Corey Hamman replaced Altoona starter Justin Wilson (1-3) to begin the inning, and the Senators would knock him out before the end of the frame. Jhonatan Solano scored the first big blow, a two-run homer that scored Ofilio Castro and made it 3-0. Hamman struck out the next two batters, but starting pitcher Erik Arnesen (1-2) advanced to first on a wild pitch. After Brad Coon walked, Espinosa hit a three-run home run to end Hamman's night, and make the score 6-0.

The Senators tacked on another run in the ninth, when Chris Marrero singled home Danny Espinosa from third, to lead to the 7-0 final score. Arnesen earned the victory, working six innings and only allowing three hits and a walk, to go with five strikeouts. Rafael Matin, Yunior Novoa, and Adam Carr each pitched one scoreless inning to complete the shut out. Wilson took the loss for Altoona (20-12).

The win gave the Senators a series victory, as they also defeated the Curve 3-2 on Tuesday, in a snow-shortened contest. The Sens have now won seven of their last eight road games, sandwiched around a 2-8 homestand. They get four more chances at Metro Bank Park this weekend, starting Thursday night with a 7 PM game against the 6-25 New Britain Rock Cats. Brad Meyers (0-0, 0.00 is scheduled to pitch for the Senators. Radio coverage of the game begins at 6:45 PM, on 1460 AM The Ticket and www.senatorsbaseball.com.
