
Cooper Smashes 3-Run HR in 10-3 Win Over Phillies

Reading, PA- David Coopercracked his first home run of the season, a three-run blast in the top of the fifth inning, and Bubbie Buzacheropitched a season-high four innings to earn his third victory as the New Hampshire Fisher Cats knocked off the Reading Phillies, 10-3, at FirstEnergy Stadium on Wednesday afternoon. New Hampshire (21-12) took two of the three games in the series to maintain first place in the Eastern League's Eastern Division.
Cooper (1-for-5, HR, 3 RBI), who had gone 126 at-bats since hitting his last home run, launched a three-run homer off former Fisher Cats Ty Taubenheim with two outs in the top of the fifth, increasing the Fisher Cats' lead from 5-2 to 8-2. Earlier in the inning, Brian Jeroloman (1-for-2, 2B, 2 BB, R) doubled, advanced to third on a wild pitch and scored on an error charged to third baseman Tagg Bozied for a 4-2 lead.
Buzachero (3-0) yielded one run on three hits in four innings to remain unbeaten. The veteran right-hander fanned two and walked on.
Phillipe Aumount (1-3) suffered the setback after issuing seven runs -five earned- on four hits and three walks in 4.2 innings. The right-hander struck out a season-high eight batters.
The Fisher Cats erased an early 1-0 deficit by scoring four runs against Aumont in the top of the second inning. Jonathan Diaz (1-for-4, 2 RBI, 2 R) and Darin Mastroianni (1-for-4, 2 RBI, R, BB, 2 SB) each delivered bases-loaded, two-run singles to give New Hampshire a 4-1 advantage.
The Phillies (12-20) got one back in the bottom of the second when they loaded the bases against Zach Stewart, and Quintin Berry (1-for-4, BB, RBI, R) drove in a run with a ground out, cutting New Hampshire's lead to 4-2.
Stewart pitched three innings, allowing two runs on four hits with three walks and two strikeouts.
New Hampshire added a run in the sixth on a sacrifice fly by Adam Calderone (0-for-4, SF) and Eric Thames (1-for-5, 3B, R) tripled and scored on a run-scoring grounder by Shawn Bowman (0-for-2, 3 BB, 2 R, RBI) in the ninth to cap the scoring.
For the second straight game, Domonic Brown (2-for-4, HR, BB) smashed an opposite-field solo home run with two outs in the bottom of the first, giving Reading a 1-0 lead.
The Fisher Cats return home to open a four-game series against the Portland Sea Dogs at Merchantsauto.com Stadium on Thursday night at 7:05pm. New Hampshire right-hander Bobby Bell (2-2, 6.67) will get the start against Portland righty Ryne Miller (1-1, 4.18).
