Sens Double Up Sea Dogs
June 29, 2010 - Eastern League (EL1)
Harrisburg Senators News Release
Jesus Valdez and Michael Martinez combined to drive in seven runs, and the Harrisburg Senators doubled up the Portland Sea Dogs on Tuesday night at Hadlock Field in Portland, winning 8-4 in front of a crowd of 5343.
Portland (38-38) took an early lead with a run in the first inning, but the Senators (38-40) struck back with three in the third, and three more in the fifth. Chris Marrero drove in Danny Espinosa with a single in the third, and Valdez doubled home Marrero and Marvin Lowrance, who had walked with one out. Then, in the fifth, the Sens extended their lead to 6-1, thanks to Martinez. His three-run home run scored Lowrance and Marrero, and broke the game open.
The Sea Dogs got one back in the sixth inning, but the Sens scored quickly, in the top of the seventh inning. After a leadoff double by Lowrance, Valdez homered over the left-field fence to bring him home, and once again bust the game open. The Senators led 8-2 at that point.
Tom Milone (6-3) went 6+ innings, allowed four runs, and got the win. Stephen Fife gave up six runs in his five innings, and took the loss to drop to 4-2. Valdez and Martinez each had two hits, as did Marrero. Lowrance, Espinosa, and Brad Coon each had one.
With the win, the Senators clinched the three-game series. Game three is Wednesday night at 7 PM, with radio coverage on 1460 AM The Ticket and www.senatorsbaseball.com beginning at 6:45 PM. Left-hander John Lannan (1-0, 1.29) makes his second start for the Sens, after coming down from the Washington Nationals last week, against RHP Kyle Weiland (3-5, 3.70).
