Rock Cats Rally to Take Nightcap

New Britain, CT - Tyler Robertson finally notched his elusive first victory of the season as the Rock Cats rallied back and downed Trenton, 5-2 to take the nightcap of Tuesday night's doubleheader.

The Thunder struck first with two runs in the third when Brandon Laird and Jose Gil delivered back-to-back RBI singles. Laird was thrown out at third on Gil's hit to end the inning.

The Rock Cats struck back in the bottom of the inning. Joe Benson kept the inning alive with a two-out double. Ben Revere - who was one of three Rock Cats selected earlier in the day for the 2010 Eastern League All-Star Game - followed with a base hit. Revere left the game with a leg injury suffered while running to first. Chris Parmelee drew a walk to load the bases before a fielding error by Laird at third off the bat of Jair Fernandez allowed Benson and pinch runner Erik Lis to score and tie the game.

In the bottom of the sixth, Mark Dolenc's two-run single put the Rock Cats on top for good. Robertson (1-7) hurled six strong innings, scattering six hits and striking out six. Billy Bullock proved much more effective in his second appearance as he fired a perfect seventh to pick up his first Double-A save.

Trenton's Ryan Pope (2-4) suffered the loss in relief.

Trenton's Noesi Blanks `Cats in 7-Inning Complete Game

(Game 1) NEW BRITAIN, CT - Trenton's Hector Noesi fired a seven-inning complete game shutout and Austin Krum homered to lead the Thunder to a 4-0 victory over the Rock Cats in the opening game of Tuesday night's doubleheader.

The Rock Cats' Michael McCardell cruised the first three innings - retiring the first nine of 10 batters he faced - but ran into trouble in the fourth. Krum led off the fourth with a walk. Austin Romine and Brandon Lard followed with consecutive singles, with Krum scoring on Lard's base hit to right to put the Thunder on the board, 1-0. Romine scored on a groundout by Jose Gil and Kevin Smith added an RBI single for the 3-0 advantage.

Krum added another run with a solo homer in the fifth inning for the Thunder.

Noesi (5-1) scattered five hits and walked none. He struck out four. McCardell (0-9) remains in search of his first victory of the 2010 season after tossing six solid innings. He allowed four runs on five hits and struck out six through six innings.
