Harrisburg Senators News Release
Brian Goodwin's solo home run sparked a four-run 11th inning as the Harrisburg Senators captured a wild 16-12 victory over the Portland Sea Dogs Sunday at Hadlock Field. The Senators (53-56) won the series three games to one.
The score was 5-1 after one inning as Portland scored five runs on four hits off Senators' starter Lucas Giolito in the first. The Senators began to chip away, however, scoring two in the second inning on an Isaac Ballou solo HR and a Chris Bostick RBI single. Harrisburg tied the game 6-6 in the third when Drew Vettleson homered while Wilmer Difo and Cutter Dykstra followed with RBI singles. The game stayed tied into the fifth when Jose Lozada tripled and scored on a Ballou sacrifice fly, putting Harrisburg up 7-6.
Giolito posted three consecutive scoreless innings after a rough first two to finish with six runs allowed in five innings. Giolito allowed eight hits, three walks and struck out four. Wander Suero relieved Giolito and allowed Portland to take a 9-7 lead with three runs on four hits in the sixth inning. Harrisburg responded quickly, however, as Dykstra and Goodwin both walked with two outs to set up a three-run home run by Shawn Pleffner. Vettleson made it back-to-back jacks as he followed with a solo dinger. The Senators then added a run in the top of the eighth when Jose Lozada scored on a wild pitch to open up a 12-9 lead.
That lead was also short-lived as Portland hit back-to-back home runs off Senators' righty Abel De Los Santos - one a two-run homer by Sam Travis, and a game-tying solo homer that followed. Two of the runs were charged to De Los Santos, and one went to Bryan Harper, who pitched an inning and left with a man on second in the eighth inning. De Los Santos finished with 1.1 innings pitched, four hits and two runs allowed.
Both teams went scoreless in the 10th, but Goodwin led the 11th off with a line drive homer that snuck just inside the right field foul pole to make it 13-12, Senators. Pedro Severino and Bostick added RBI fielder's choices while Wilmer Difo drove in a run with a bases loaded walk to make the lead comfortable. Gilberto Mendez earned the win, allowing one hit in two scoreless frames.
Difo finished 5-for-7 with three runs and two RBI. Pleffner and Vettleson both had three hits and three RBI. Lozada had three hits and Bostick, Dykstra and Ballou all had two hits.
The two teams combined for 40 hits and 11 pitchers in the game.
The Senators will observe their first off day since the All-Star break tomorrow before welcoming in Akron Tuesday for a three-game set. Tuesday's game will begin at 7:00 p.m. The pregame show will start at 6:45 p.m. on Fox Sports 1460am, iHeart Radio, and on Tune In.
