Eflin sends Fisher Cats swimming

Zach Eflin (6-6) pitched seven quality innings on Sunday afternoon and got a lot of support from the Fightin Phils (58-50) lineup as they won 8-2 against the New Hampshire Fisher Cats (55-50). Reading is now 8-8 against New Hampshire this season.

Kevin Nolan hit a two-run home run off Zach Eflin in the bottom of the first inning that gave New Hampshire a 2-0 lead. Roemon Fields scored the other run as he led off the inning with a base hit.

Destin Hood continued his hot hitting as he tied the game at 2-2 on a two-run single off Taylor Cole in the top of the fourth inning. Cameron Perkins walked with one out and Andrew Knapp hit a double as both players scored on the single.

In the top of the seventh inning the Fightin Phils scored three runs off Taylor Cole to take a 5-2 lead. Harold Martinez and Brodie Greene led off with singles. With Martinez on third base and Greene on first base, Brian Pointer dropped a squeeze bunt that scored Martinez to break the 2-2 tie. Pointer reached first base safely while Greene made second base safely. Cole would leave the game for reliever Danny Barnes.

Angelo Mora kept the good times going as he dropped a sacrifice bunt that loaded the bases. JP Crawford popped out to third base then Cameron Perkins hit a two-run single that scored Greene and Pointer. Pointer hit a two-run home run in the top of the eighth inning off Barnes that extended Reading's lead to 7-2. Andrew Knapp hit a RBI double in the top of the ninth inning off reliever John Anderson that gave Reading an 8-2 lead.

Ryan O'Sullivan and Reinier Roibal tossed scoreless innings in relief. Andrew Knapp turned in his second straight three hit game. Cameron Perkins, Destin Hood, Brodie Greene and Brian Pointer each had two hit games.

The Fightin Phils are off Monday. They will play in Trenton on Tuesday evening to begin a three-game series with the Thunder. First pitch is at 7:00 pm. Fans can listen to the game on CBS Sports Radio 1240 AM/98-5 FM and fightins.com beginning at 6:30 pm.
