Akron RubberDucks News Release

Altoona's Hunter Morris slugged a three-run double in the first inning Sunday, giving the Curve an early lead that they never relinquished in a 7-2 over the Akron RubberDucks at People's Natural Gas Field.

Turning Point

After falling behind 3-1 on Morris' double, the RubberDucks loaded the bases with no outs in the top of the second against Curve lefty Steven Brault. With an opportunity to get right back in the game, or even take the lead, the RubberDucks failed to score as Brault got Bryson Myles on a pop-up, Todd Hankins on a strikeout, and Yandy Diaz on a grounder to second. Armed with that momentum, Brault (5-3) proceeded to toss six innings and earn his second win over the RubberDucks this season.

Mound Presence

Jordan Cooper (0-3) started for the RubberDucks and absorbed his third loss. After retiring the first two hitters in the first inning, he allowed a double to Jose Osuna and then issued back-to-back walks to Erich Weiss and Barrett Barnes to load the bases for Morris, who cleared the bases. Cooper lasted 5 1/3 innings and allowed six hits and six runs, while walking four. He left with a pair of runners on base in the sixth, but those two runners scored when Altoona's Adam Frazier stroked a two-out single off Akron right-hander Louis Head.

Duck Tales

Carlos Moncrief drove in the first run of the game with an RBI single in the first inning off Brault for a 1-0 lead, but the RubberDucks let him off the hook that inning as well, leaving runners on the corners. Moncrief was 2-4 on the night. He also doubled and scored in the third on Jordan Smith's single to right. Smith was 2-3, with a walk.
