Senators Turn Triple Play in 7-1 Loss to Curve

Harrisburg Senators News Release

On Thursday night in Altoona the Senators opened up the second half of the season with a 7-1 loss to the Altoona Curve. Harrisburg banged out 12 hits but managed just a single run on a solo home run in the ninth inning off the bat of Leonard Davis. Harrisburg is now 38-52 while Altoona improves to 34-58.

Luis Atilano struggled in taking his sixth loss of the season. But Atilano threw the pitch that turned into one of the rarest plays in baseball. In the bottom of the first inning with Jim Negrych at second and Gorkys Hernandez at first, Jose Tabata lined a ball to Ofilio Castro at second base. Castro made the catch, just off the ground, tossed the ball to Freddie Bynum at second for the second out and Bynum then threw to first for the third out in the triple play.

Unfortunately, for the Senators the triple play was the highlight of the night.

Altoona scored in the second, then scored two runs in each of the fourth, fifth, and sixth innings for their seven.

Meanwhile the Sens bounced into four double plays to short circuit innings. Trailing 7-0 in the seventh, they bounced into a double play with runners on the corners and one out. In the eighth, they bounced in a bases-loaded one out double play.

Four different Sens had two hits, Michael Daniel, Dmitri Young, Leonard Davis and Ofilio Castro. The Sens had a baserunner in every inning but one.

The Senators are now 0-4 against Altoona this year and have managed to score just four total runs in the four games.

The series continues on Friday night at Blair County Ballpark with LH Cory VanAllen on the mound for the Sens.
