Petersen's Three-Hit Effort Not Enough in 10-5 Loss to Erie

Josh Petersen collected his third straight three-hit game and Lucas Duda extended his hit streak to a Binghamton season-high 14 games but the Erie SeaWolves defeated the Binghamton Mets 10-5 Thursday night at NYSEG Stadium. After 21.2 innings without allowing an earned run, Dylan Owen was roughed up for eight runs in five innings.

In the top of the first Casper Wells had a two-run triple and Andy Dirks added an RBI double to put the SeaWolves on the board first against Owen. The B-Mets responded with two runs in the bottom of the frame when five men in a row reached base against Jon Kibler. Jonathan Malo and Ike Davis reached with one-out singles and Petersen walked. Caleb Stewart then drove in Malo with a single and Duda brought in Davis with a base hit of his own before Mike Nickeas grounded into an inning ending double play.

Erie (51-40) added two in the second to make it 5-2 when Danny Worth scored on a Santo De Leon double. De Leon would later score on a sacrifice fly by Cale Iorg.

Emmanuel Garcia extended his streak of reaching base at NYSEG Stadium to 19 games when he reached on a bunt single in the bottom of the second. He would later score on a RBI ground out by Malo to make the score 5-3.

Ron Bourquin homered with two out in the third to put the SeaWolves back up 6-3. Kibler worked out of a bases-loaded, one-out jam in the bottom of the inning. He went three innings, giving up three runs on seven hits and three walks. De Leon homered off Owen in the fourth to make it 7-3 and Dirks went deep in the fifth to make it 8-3. De Leon and Brennan Boesch had lead off triples in the sixth and seventh innings, respectively, off Mike Antonini and both would later score bringing the score to 10-3.

Binghamton (33-57) scored one run in the seventh off Ramon Garcia when Petersen led off with a single. After advancing to third on a Duda double, Petersen would score on a sacrifice fly by Nickeas to make it 10-4. The final run of the game came across for the B-Mets in the ninth when Stewart scored on a ball on a fielder's choice to center.

Owen went five innings, giving up a season-high eight earned runs on nine hits in his first loss since May 30. The winning pitcher was Brendan Wise as he went three, shutout innings to move to 3-0 on the season. Ramon Garcia was credited with a save by working the final three innings, giving up two runs on five hits.

Binghamton continues an eight-game home stand with game two of a four-game set against Erie Friday night. The B-Mets will toss LHP Eric Niesen (0-4, 6.75) and the SeaWolves will send RHP Pat Stanley (4-2, 3.74) to the mound. The first pitch is slated for 7:05 and the radio broadcast on Newsradio 1290 WNBF begins at 6:50 with the Horizons Federal Credit Union Pre-Game Show.
