Miscellaneous Notes

Last Game... On Sunday afternoon the Senators used the long ball to snap their six-game losing streak in defeating the Reading Phillies 6-2. The Senators had four different hitters get two hits, Marco Yepez, Josh Whitesell, Frank Diaz, and Dan Dement, in leading the ten hit attack on Sunday. Diaz hit a two-run home run in the sixth, and Josh Whitesell hit a two-run home run in the eighth for the Sens. It was the third home run of the series for Whitesell. Mike Hinckley struggled with his control Sunday, but earned the win going five innings and allowing just two runs. Jon Albaladejo pitched three scoreless innings and Brett Campbell pitched the final inning in relief for the Senators.

Tonight's Game... Tonight is game one of a three-game series in Akron for the Senators. The two teams have played just three times this season, all three of them here in Akron earlier this season with the Senators sweeping the Aeros in a double header. Akron comes into the series in first place in the Southern Division by two games over Erie but they have struggled lately having lost two straight and seven of their past ten games.

Tonight's Starting Pitcher... The Senators send LH Beltran Perez to the mound against LH Shawn Nottingham for Akron. Perez is making his 13th start this season for the Senators. Perez was placed on the DL on 6/2 with a sore back and activated on 6/22. His last outing was on Monday, July 9th against Trenton. He went four innings before leaving the game due to reaching his pitch count. Perez had been on the DL which is why he had the short pitch count. After spending the entire Eastern League season with the Senators, he appeared in eight games and made three starts for the Nationals last September. He was originally signed by the Arizona Diamondbacks. All-Stars... RHP Dan Kolb, RHP Brett Campbell and 1B Josh Whitesell were all named to the Southern Division All-Star team. Neither of the three Senator allstars played in the fog shortened game.

Misc Notes... The last three games are just the second time this season the Senators have scored five or more runs in three straight games... After taking three of four at Binghamton in late June, the Sens have won just four of their past 15 games... In their past 14 games, the Sens are just 20 x 102 (.196) with risp; 48 runners left in scoring position; 13 two-out RBIs; and 106 total runners left on base... The Sens have struck out 10+ times in a game 21 times this season and have also struck out more than any other team in the Eastern League... The Senators finished the 2004 season at 52-90, 38 games under .500... The 38 games under .500 they finished in 2004 was the all-time lowest point for the Senators since they resumed playing in 1987... Frank Diaz lead's the team in outfield assists with six... All seven Senator road games in the month of July have drawn over 4,500 fans... Scott Little has been ejected each of the past two games...

Disabled List... Tony Blanco is the only Senator currently on the disabled list. He has been on the disabled off and on since June 19th with a hamstring injury and has not been appeared in a game since June 17th. 5,000,000 Countdown... The Senators have drawn 135,921 fans this season to Commerce Bank Park, an average of 3,485. They are now just 24,096 fans away from drawing their five-millionth fan in franchise history.
