Fisher Cats Fall to Sea Dogs, 9-1

Manchester, NH- Chip Cannon drew a pair of walks and broke up a shutout bid with an RBI fielder's choice ground out in the ninth inning, but the Portland Sea Dogs still took the opener of a three-game series at Merchantsauto.com Stadium, 9-1, over the New Hampshire Fisher Cats on Monday night.

Dusty Brown went 2-for-4 with a two-run home run, the RELCO Enlightening Play of the Game, an RBI double, a walk and two runs scored to lead Portland (47-43), which moves to within a half game of the Fisher Cats in the Eastern League Northern Division standings.

The Sea Dogs took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning against Fisher Cats' starter Kurt Isenberg on a bases-loaded single from Chad Spann (2-for-5, RBI, R).

Jeff Corsaletti (2-for-5, 2 RBI, R) doubled in two runs in the second inning, staking the Sea Dogs to a 3-0 lead.

Brown's home run capped a three-run fifth inning, building Porltand's lead to 6-0.

Isenberg (3-7) suffered the loss after yielding five runs on eight hits in four innings. He struck out four and walked one.

Jose Vaquedano (1-0), making an emergency relief appearance, allowed only one hit in 2.2 innings to earn the victory. Starter Daniel Haigwood departed with an undisclosed injury with one out in the bottom of the fourth inning.

Ryan Patterson (2-for-4) and Manny Mayorson (2-for-4) combined for four of the six hits for New Hampshire (49-44).

The Fisher Cats send left-hander Ricky Romero (0-2, 4.33) to the mound on Tuesday night at 7:05pm against Sea Dogs' right-hander Michael Bowden (3-4, 5.11). Radio coverage begins at 6:45pm on the WGIR Fisher Cats Radio Network (610-AM, Manchester; 930-AM, Rochester; 1540-AM, Exeter) with Mike Murphy and Tom Gauthier.
