PORTLAND, ME - The Eastern League is pleased to announce the Major League Baseball Advanced Media selections for the Eastern League Pitcher and Player of the Week for the week ending July 15th:

Akron Aeros third baseman/catcher Chris Gimenez has been named the Eastern League's Player of the Week for the week ending July 15th. The 24-year old had an outstanding week for the Aeros, batting .474 (9-for-19) with three doubles, three homers, five RBI, nine runs scored, two walks and a 1.105 slugging percentage in five games. Gimenez, a native of Gilroy, California, had three multiple hit games for the Aeros last week, including going 3-for-4 with two doubles and three runs scored in a 10-4 win at Altoona last Thursday. The 6'2", 190 lb. slugger started the season with the Kinston Indians of the Class-A Carolina League, where he batted .286 with 16 home runs and 41 RBI in 59 games before receiving a promotion and making his Double-A debut on June 29th. Chris was selected by the Cleveland Indians in the 19th round of the 2004 draft after hitting .327 with 30 homers and 103 RBI in three seasons at the University of Nevada.

Justin Masterson, a right-handed starting pitcher for the Portland Sea Dogs, is the Eastern League's Pitcher of the Week for the week ending July 15th. The 22-year old made a pair of starts for the Sea Dogs last week and was 2-0 with a 0.00 ERA. Justin was promoted to Portland from Single-A Lancaster and made his Double-A debut last Monday at New Hampshire, striking out nine Fisher Cats and walking one without allowing a hit in 6.2 innings of work in a 5-0 victory. The 6'6", 250 lb. hurler also earned the win in his second start of the week after giving up just three hits and one walk while striking out seven in six shutout innings of work against New Britain at Hadlock Field on Saturday. Justin, who went 8-5 with a 4.33 ERA in 17 games with Lancaster, was selected by the Boston Red Sox in the 2nd round of the 2006 draft after going 6-7 with 108 strikeouts and a 4.81 ERA in 116 innings pitched as a junior at San Diego State University.
