Harrisburg Senators News Release
Reading, PA - The Harrisburg Senators hung on for a 7-6 win over the Reading Phillies, Tuesday in Reading. William Bergolla homered and drove in four runs to lead the offense. RHP Jordan Zimmermann delivered another strong start but did not figure in the decision.
Zimmermann turned in another strong start, going six innings and allowing two runs on four hits, a walk and five strikeouts.
The Phillies took the early lead when Jason Donald clubbed a two-run homer to right-center to give Reading a 2-0 advantage.
That lead didn't last long as Harrisburg plated four runs in the top of the 2nd. With two out, Garrett Guzman drilled a two-run triple into the right-field corner to tie the game. Bergolla followed with a two-run homer, his second in as many nights, to put the Senators in front, 4-2.
The Phillies hung around as RHP Tyson Brummett worked out of several jams. Zimmermann held up his end, retiring 17 of the last 19 batters he faced.
Reading rallied as Neil Sellers hammered a game-tying two-run homer in the bottom of the 7th to tie it at 4-4.
The Senators jumped back out in front in the top of the 8th as Bergolla blooped a two-out, bases-loaded, two-run single to left to make it a 6-4 Harrisburg lead.
The Phillies chopped into the deficit as RHP Adam Carr walked Javon Moran to lead off the 8th and came around to score on Lou Marson's two-out RBI single to make it a 6-5 game.
Luis Jimenez added an insurance run in the top of the 9th with a line drive home run to center to push the advantage to 7-5.
In the bottom of the 9th, Mike Eylward and Michael Spidale laced back-to-back singles to put runners at the corners with nobody out. Sellers bounced into an RBI fielder's choice to make it a 6-5 game. But Carr induced a pair of flyouts to end the game.
RHP Tristan Crawford picked up the win in relief for the Senators to even his record at 2-2. RHP Pat Overholt took the loss to drop to 2-3. Carr snagged his second save of the year with Harrisburg.
The Senators upped their record to 43-32. Reading dipped to 29-46.
The four-game series continues Wednesday at 7:05 PM in Reading. RHP Adrian Alaniz (0-0, 1.50 ERA) locks horns with Phillies RHP Kip Bouknight (3-8, 6.28 ERA).
