Coke pitches gem as Thunder earn win

(Trenton, NJ)- Thunder starting pitcher Phil Coke pitched seven solid innings as the Thunder defeated Erie on Tuesday night 6-2 at Waterfront Park. Trenton is now 6-0 in the season-series against Erie, and has won back-to-back games for the first time since 6/7-6/8 against Reading.

Trenton (46-30) jumped on the board early on against Erie starting pitcher Andrew Kown (4-9). In the first inning, the first four Thunder batters reached base. The streak was capped off by an RBI walk from C P.J. Pilittere to give Trenton a 1-0 lead. 1B Cody Ehlers followed by grounding into a double play, which plated the second run to make it 2-0. The Thunder added a run in the 2nd inning on a fielder's choice RBI by Colin Curtis to increase the lead to 3-0. With the score 3-1 in the 4th inning, RF Edwar Gonzalez led off the frame with a solo home run. Gonzalez finished the game 3 x 4. Curtis would later provide more insurance for the Thunder. He had an RBI single in the 6th inning and a sacrifice fly RBI in the 8th inning to cap the scoring for Trenton. Curtis went 2 x 4 with 3 RBI in the win.

Coke (5-3) went 7 IP and allowed only 4 H an 1 R. He struck out 10, one off of his career-high and walked only 2. Coke retired 10 in a row at one point during the game. Thunder reliever Eric Wordekemper wrapped up the game for the Thunder tossing the final two innings. Kown took the loss for Erie as he went 5.2 IP and gave up 10 H and 5 ER. New Jersey native, and Rutgers product, Jeff Frazier went 2 x 4 with an RBI and now has four hits in the series.

Trenton and Erie will play the third game of the series on Wednesday night at Waterfront Park. Game time is set for 7:05 p.m. RHP Eric Hacker (1-1, 2.49) will start for Trenton. RHP Ben Fritz (2-2, 5.59) will start for Erie.
