Altoona Curve News Release

BINGHAMTON, NY - Corey Hamman blanked the Binghamton Mets over eight innings to earn his fourth victory and the Curve withstood a wild bottom of the ninth inning to hold on for a 6-4 win Tuesday evening at NYSEG Stadium in Binghamton, New York.

Altoona (34-41) evened the series at a game apiece with the win. The Curve were playing just the second game of a seven-game road trip, which will conclude this weekend in Bowie. Binghamton (42-34) lost for only the seventh time in its last 25 games.

Hamman (4-6) faced only one batter over the minimum during his eight innings of stellar baseball, allowing four hits, walking none and striking out three. He was aided by three double plays turned by the Altoona defense to face only 25 batters in the contest.

The Curve built a 6-0 lead entering the bottom of the ninth and had to hold on for the win as the B-Mets scored four runs and put the potential tying run on base against reliever Derek Antelo. Pat Bresnehan enduced the final out of the game to preserve the Altoona win and earn his sixth save.

Shelby Ford and Chris Duffy each belted solo home runs to start the Curve scoring against Mets' starter Tobi Stoner (0-1). Ford's fourth-inning blast was his first of the season and first at the Double-A level. Duffy opened a three-run Curve fifth with his home run to right. The Pirates' outfielder, playing in his ninth game of a major league rehab assignment, finished the night 2-for-4.

Jason Delaney was responsible for the final four Altoona runs, knocking in a pair in the fifth on a single and a two more in the ninth with a double. Delaney went 3-for-5 in the game and is 6-for-10 in the first two games of the Binghamton series.

Stoner (0-1), making just his third start with Binghamton since being called up from Class-A St. Lucie in the Mets' chain, took the loss allowing four runs and nine hits in six innings.

The game was marred by a benches-clearing incidient in the bottom of the ninth inning. Managers Tim Leiper of the Curve and Mako Oliveras of Binghamton were ejected, as was B-Mets outfielder Ambiorix Concepcion.

The Curve and B-Mets will play the third game of their four-game set Wednesday evening at NYSEG Stadium. First pitch is set for 7:05 p.m. Altoona will send right-hander Luis Munoz (1-0, 1.29) to the mound for his second start since his assignment from Triple-A Indianapolis. Binghamton will counter with righty Bobby Parnell (6-4, 4.39), a non-relative of Curve General Manager Todd Parnell.
