Harrisburg Senators News Release

Despite outstanding pitching by Austin Voth, the Harrisburg Senators fell 1-0 to the Richmond Flying Squirrels in the opener of a three-game series Tuesday at Metro Bank Park. The loss snapped a win streak of five for Harrisburg (27-36).

Voth turned in seven shutout innings, in which he allowed just three hits, walked one and struck out three. Voth allowed a runner to reach third base just once in Tuesday's outing. James Simmons followed with a scoreless eighth, but in the ninth Richmond was able to score an unearned run off Paul Demny to take the lead. Eliezer Zambrano's bounced into a fielder's choice that scored Angel Villalona as the Senators were unable to turn a 3-6-1 double play in time.

Harrisburg managed just two hits off Flying Squirrels' starter Joe Biagini - a blooper by Pedro Severino and an infield single by Derrick Robinson. Drew Vettleson walked after Robinson's single in the first inning, but Harrisburg left runners on first and third as Shawn Pleffner flied out deep to left-center field. Biagini retired the final 21 he faced, and Richmond closer Josh Osich pitched a 1-2-3 ninth inning.

Game two of the three-game series will begin Wednesday at noon. Nationals pitcher Stephen Strasburg is expected to make a rehab start for the Senators against Richmond's Adalberto Mejia. The pregame show will start at 11:45 a.m. on Fox Sports 1460am, iHeart Radio, and on Tune In.
