Binghamton Rumble Ponies News Release
PORTLAND, ME - Gabriel Ynoa teased the Portland Sea Dogs over seven strong innings and the Binghamton Mets backed him with a ten-hit attack in a 6-1 victory on Tuesday night at Hadlock Field. Brock Peterson and Eudy Pina each collected a pair of RBI to lead Binghamton to their fifth-straight win, pushing the club to within 2.5 games of first place.
The B-Mets wasted little time getting on the board in the series opener. Gavin Cecchini doubled to start the game and came home when Peterson placed a two-out double into the right-field corner.
After Marco Hernandez tied the game with a leadoff homer in the bottom of the first, Binghamton got right back to work, plating a run without hitting a ball out of the infield. Following back-to-back fielding errors by Portland's middle infield, the B-Mets took the lead back on a run-producing groundout by Pina.
Binghamton converted two additional Portland errors and hits from LJ Mazzilli and Michael Conforto into two more runs in the third inning. Peterson stretched Binghamton's lead to four with a two-out RBI single in the fourth. Pina blasted a solo blast in the sixth, clearing the Maine Monster for his second homer in as many games.
Ynoa got off to a shaky start, allowing three hits to the first six batters he faced, before shifting to another gear. The righty allowed consecutive singles to start the second but turned his night around on one play. Ynoa snared Dave Sappelt's line drive to the mound and fired to first to double off Keury De La Cruz.
The double play nullified a Portland threat and started a stretch of 15 consecutive Sea Dogs hitters retired by Ynoa. The righty cruised through four straight perfect innings before Oscar Tejeda singled with one out in the seventh, Ynoa's final inning. Dario Alvarez and Julian Hilario each tossed scoreless innings to close the game.
Ynoa (3-4) allowed one run on four hits over seven innings to snap a six-start winless streak. The righty prevented the Sea Dogs from reaching third base after Hernandez's homer to earn his first win since May 1. Augliera (2-10) was tagged for five runs (two earned) on eight hits in his sixth career loss to Binghamton.
The B-Mets (33-30) continue their three-game series in Portland on Wednesday night at 7:00 PM. RHP Luis Cessa takes the mound against RHP Heri Quevedo. The Horizons Federal Credit Union Pregame Show can be heard starting at 6:45 PM on Newsradio 1290 WNBF and the Binghamton Mets channel on TuneIn.
POSTGAME NOTES: The start of the game was delayed by 17 minutes due to inclement weather...the B-Mets have won six straight games at Hadlock Field dating to last year's postseason run...the B-Mets are three games over .500 for the first time since May 26 (24-21)
