New Hampshire Fisher Cats News Release

ERIE, PA - The New Hampshire Fisher Cats had a late chance to tie the game but couldn't convert, dropping a 6-3 contest against the Erie SeaWolves Tuesday night at Jerry Uht Park.

The Fisher Cats (29-35) had a short-lived lead early in the game but couldn't come up with much offense after the fourth inning, mustering only four hits total and none after the fourth frame. Erie (22-40) avoided the ignominy of falling 20 games below .500, capitalizing on aggressive baserunning to beat the Fisher Cats.

The SeaWolves got on the board first in the bottom of the first inning against Fisher Cats starter Taylor Cole (ND). The righty allowed back-to-back singles to Jason Krizan and Wynton Bernard with one out, and James Robbins sliced a two-out single to left to plate Krizan, putting the hosts ahead 1-0. In the third, Erie tacked on another run. Krizan led off with a single, and moved to third when shortstop Jorge Flores threw the ball away trying to retire Bernard at first. Green tapped out to first base, scoring Krizan and running Erie's lead to 2-0.

New Hampshire jumped into the lead in the top of the fourth inning, as Jon Berti and K.C. Hobson reached base against Erie starter Chad Green (ND). Ryan Schimpf then blasted his seventh homer over the right field wall to put the Fisher Cats ahead 3-2. That lead would be short-lived, though, as Tony Thomas took Cole deep to right field in the bottom of the inning to tie the game up 3-3.

Erie surged back into the lead in the bottom of the eighth inning against new Fisher Cats reliever Danny Barnes (L, 2-2). Bernard singled to begin the inning, and moved to third when Barnes threw away the ball on a bunt attempt by Josh Prince. A fielder's choice extinguished Prince but let James Robbins reach first. With one out and runners at the corners, Connor Harrell dropped a squeeze bunt that Barnes botched, flipping the ball past catcher Jack Murphy. Bernard scored and the runners wound up on second and third on the play. After Thomas was intentionally walked to load the bases, Wade Gaynor chopped a single through the left side to score Robbins and Harrell, running the Erie lead to 6-3. New Hampshire brought the tying run to the plate in the ninth inning but couldn't score.

New Hampshire will try to take the rubber match Wednesday afternoon, with righty Joel Pineiro starting for the Fisher Cats against Erie right-hander Tommy Collier at 12:05 p.m. at Jerry Uht Stadium. Radio coverage will begin at 11:45 a.m. with Ben Gellman on the WGIR Fisher Cats Radio Network and online at www.nhfishercats.com.

The Fisher Cats will return home on June 19th to face Binghamton at 7:05 p.m. on an Atlas Fireworks night, with a Family Sleepover and Scout Night! Tickets are available at www.nhfishercats.com or by calling the ticket office at (603)-641-2005.
