NEWS AND NOTES

SHORT STOP HOME:The Sea Dogs open up a three-game series against the Binghamton Mets on Tuesday night at Hadlock Field...Portland returns home after a 2-4 roadtrip, and completed a 12-game stretch against Richmond and Bowie, going 3-9...After this series, the 'Dogs open up an 8-game roadtrip on Friday night against the Reading Fightin Phils, and then travel to New Hampshire...Portland was swept in their only series with Binghamton at Hadlock on April 27-29.

POWER WASN'T ENOUGH:David Chester, Dave Sappelt and Oscar Tejeda each hit solo-homers, but Portland suffered a 6-3 loss in Bowie on Sunday afternoon at Prince George's Stadium...Bowie received two homers of their own, as Rossmel Perez tied the game with a two-run blast in the fourth...Trey Mancini hit the game-winner, launching a two-run blast off losing pitcher Simon Mercedes (1-2) in the sixth...Terry Doyle (6-1) beat Portland for the second straight Sunday, working six innings on five hits and three runs...Justin Haley (ND) pitched 5+ innings on five hits and three runs.
