Big Eighth Sends 'Wolves to Win

Erie was able to get the bats going in game two as they defeated New Hampshire by a score of 6-3.

The Seawolves would open up the scoring in the first inning as back-to-back singles by Jason Krizan and Wynton Bernard would put runners at the corners for James Robbins. Robbins would smack a fastball down the left field line scoring Krizan with a two out single. Erie would lead it 1-0 after one.

In the third the Seawolves would tack on one more run as of singles by Krizan and Bernard would lead off the inning. Krizan would then advance to third on a throwing error, and then he would be brought home by ground ball by Dean Green. After three complete Erie would lead it 2-0.

The 'Cats would pull ahead in the top of the third inning with one swing of the bat from Ryan Schimpf. Dalton Pomped and John Berti would lead the inning off with singles, which would then bring up Schimpf. Schimpf would the take advantage of a breaking ball that was left up in the zone by Austin Green, sending it over the right field wall for his seventh homer of the season. This homer would put New Hampshire up 3-2.

The game would remain scoreless until the Seawolves would put a three spot up in the bottom of the eighth to take the lead. The scoring would get started as Wynton Bernard would lead the inning off with a single, he would be moved over on a sacrifice bunt and an error, which left him at third. Connor Harrell would then lay down a bunt of his own which would score Bernard from third. James Robbins, who previously reached on a sacrifice, would be moved over to third and Harrell would be at second. Tony Thomas would then be internationally walked leaving the bases loaded for Wade Gaynor. Gaynor would then single down the third base line bringing home both Harrell and Robbins. Erie would take the lead on the two RBI single, 6-3 through eight.

Reliever Joe Rodgers would take the win on the mound for Erie as he took over for Chad Green In the eighth; he improves to 2-1 on the year. Jeff Ferrell picks up the save for the 'Wolves, which is good for his ninth of the year.
