Portland Sea Dogs News Release
Portland, Maine - Gabriel Ynoa threw seven strong innings, the Sea Dogs made four errors, and the Binghamton Mets (33-30) took game one of the three game series in Portland (25-39) by a final score of 6-1 on Tuesday night at Hadlock Field.
Ynoa (W, 3-4) was not the scheduled starter for Wednesday night's game, but since Rainy Lara was promoted to Triple-A, Ynoa was bumped up and proved very impressive for the Mets - allowing just one earned run on four hits in seven innings and striking out two. He retired 14 in a row from the second to the seventh inning.
After the Mets took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first on an RBI double by Brock Peterson (2-4, 2 RBI, R), Portland answered in the bottom half on a lead-off, solo home run by Marco Hernandez (1-4, HR, RBI), his second of the season and first homer since April 15th. That would be all the offense Portland could muster against Ynoa and the Mets' bullpen, however, with Dario Alvarez and Julian Hilario closing out the game with a scoreless inning of relief each.
The Mets added an unearned run in the second thanks to two Sea Dogs' errors and an RBI groundout by Eudy Pina (2-4, HR, 2 RBI, 2 R), then they added two more in the third (one earned) as a result of two more Portland errors. Binghamton would pad their lead on an RBI single by Brock Peterson in the fourth and a solo home run by Eudy Pina in the sixth.
The series continues tomorrow night at Hadlock Field, first pitch is at 7:00 PM. Heri Quevedo (0-2, 9.82) makes the start for Portland, while Luis Cessa takes (5-4, 2.21) the mound for Binghamton. Pregame coverage begins on the WPEI U.S. Cellular Sea Dogs Radio Network at 6:40 PM. Tickets are still available and can be purchased by phone at 207-879-9500 or online at seadogs.com.
