Norfolk Admirals News Release
NORFOLK - Brandon Segal scored fours goals to lead the Admirals to 7-1 a victory over the Philadelphia Phantoms on Saturday Night at Norfolk Scope Arena. Paul Szczechura netted two goals and Mitch Fadden had three assists as the Admirals closed out their preseason schedule.
The Admirals scored the first goal of the game at 10:22 of the first period on a power play. Paul Szczechura sent a slap shot from the left point that beat Phantoms netminder Michael Teslak.
Segal scored his first goal with a power play tally at 14:54. He ripped a shot from the left face off dot through Teslak's pads.
Szczechura netted his second goal of the game on a five-on-three power play. He collected a Fadden pass and sent a shot from the left faceoff circle past the outstretched leg of Teslak at 5:48 of the second stanza.
Segal lit the lamp again just one minute and six seconds later while both teams played with four skaters. Bracken Kearns sent a pass from behind the Phantom's goal to the slot, and Segal fired a shot from the top of the crease that eluded Teslak at 6:14.
Jon Kalinski broke up Admirals netminder Mike McKenna's shutout bid with a power play goal at 7:06.
However, Segal answered back under four minutes later. Segal and Luciano Aquino broke in two-on-one and Segal sent a wrist shot from the right circle into the net to complete the hat trick at 11:04.
Chris Lawrence added the Admirals' sixth goal of the game when he collected a rebound in the low slot and put it past Teslak at 14:57.
Segal closed out scoring on the evening when he came streaking into the Phantoms zone and beat new Phantoms goaltender Jeremy Duchesne at 2:55 of the final frame.
Mike McKenna earned the win for the Admirals, stopping 31 of 32 shots. Michael Teslak got the loss for the Phantoms and stopped 22 of 28 shots through two periods. Jeremy Duchesne stopped 4 of 5 Admirals shots in the third period and did not receive a decision.
The Admirals were 4-10 on the power play. Philadelphia was 1-8.
The puck officially drops on the 20th season of Admirals hockey next Friday and Saturday, October 10 and 11, at Scope against the Hershey Bears.
