San Antonio Rampage News Release
HOUSTON, TX - The San Antonio Rampage got a pair of goals from defenseman David Schlemko as they defeated the Houston Aeros 4-1 at the AT&T Center on Saturday night in AHL preseason action. The Rampage split the two game home and home series with their I-10 rivals to finish the preseason 1-0-0-1, including a 5-4 shootout loss on Friday in Houston.
The Rampage came out with the better chances in the first ten minutes of the first period as they put constant pressure on Aeros goalie Nolan Schafer, but the game remained scoreless. At the 9:48 mark of the period the game was delayed when forwards Frank Lessard and Adam Keefe delivered a crushing hit on Aeros defenseman Clayton Stoner that dislodged a glass partition. The Rampage got on the scoreboard late in the first period as forward Chad Kolarik fired a shot from the right circle that deflected into the net for a 1-0 San Antonio lead at 16:17. The Rampage out shot the Aeros 13-7 in the opening frame.
The Aeros tied the game early in the second period as forward Petr Kalus stuffed in a centering pass at 3:10, whacking it by Rampage goalie Josh Tordjman. San Antonio responded just over two minutes later as forward Brad Schell potted his second goal in as many games, putting home a rebound at 5:12 to make it 2-1 Rampage.
The Rampage broke open the game in the third period as Schlemko connected for a pair of goals in just 19 seconds. First he scored on a wrist shot from the slot on a power play chance, then moments later he popped in a rebound to complete the scoring. With time winding down the teams engaged in four scraps in a span of 28 seconds to the delight of the crowd. FINAL SCORE San Antonio 4, Houston 1.
Tordjman played the first 29:34 of the game stopping 10 of 11 shots. Joel Gistedt finished up the final 30:26 for San Antonio by turning aside all nine shots he faced. Schaefer stopped 21 of 23 chances in two periods of work and Anton Khodobin played the final 20 minutes for Houston stopping nine of 11 shots.
The Rampage went 1-5 on the power play while Houston was 0-2. San Antonio out shot the Aeros 34-20.
